Travis McDonald’s 2023 book about Thomas Jefferson’s “other” plantation, Poplar Forest near Lynchburg, Virginia, needed a map showing the named fields that made up the estate. It was an interesting graphic challenge, where I tried playing off soft-edged features (fields) with harder-edged features like roads and fences. I’m pleased with how it turned out. It uses a similar texture in the fields that I used for the Carleton Arboretum map.
