Monsoon Islam – Sebastian Prange/Cambridge University Press

    For his book exploring the social and economic history of Islamic states on the southeast coast of India, the author wanted to show the “wall” of ghats, mountains that define a narrow coastal plain. We tried several approached using modern elevation data, but what ended up working best was “stealing” some mountains from Abraham Ortelius’s 1570 map of southeast Asia.
